Our People | Smart WFM

Meet Nick Stonefield, Head of Governance

Written by Nick Stonefield | January 17, 2024

Superpower

I do like to provide advice and mentorship for younger people within our industry and provide advice when it is required. In addition to working with Smart WFM, I work at UTS as a tutor and lecturer in IT-related subjects, which is my way of giving back.

My personal philosophy or war cry is “to use it or lose it” and remain active.

People around me would say my superpower is to be direct, truthful and pragmatic. (traits of a Yorkshireman perhaps).

About

I was born in Whitby, North Yorkshire and migrated to Australia at the age of 19. My first role on leaving school was in the production planning department at Rowntree’s of York. It’s here where I got my initial exposure to computing and the desire to work in the IT industry. On arrival in Australia, I joined the Commonwealth Bank and was inducted into their trainee assembler programming group.

After successfully completing my training, through the years I’ve worked on many different roles within IT and have a strong belief in helping younger people to be successful.

Professional details

I have worked in corporate roles and at consultancies as both consultancy management and client consultant roles across many industry groups including finance, construction materials, consumer goods, military, communications and mining.

At both customer and consultancies, I have experience in improving quality and governance through process improvement, and knowledge to provide pragmatic comment and advice.
