AI's workplace impact desperately needs to be unpacked

Written by Jarrod McGrath | July 09, 2023

The rapid pace of AI innovation is raising legitimate concerns about the ethical and legal responsibilities associated with its use. From my experience working closely with organisations, I’ve found many leaders are unaware of their legal permissions when using AI-driven data for business decision-making.

I had the opportunity to discuss the appropriate approach organisational leaders should take when integrating AI in their operations with HR Daily. By placing individuals at the core of all decisions and evaluating the technology through the key lenses of contestability, transparency, trust and accountability, leaders can harness the advantages of AI while ensuring fairness and compliance.

Regarding the ethical application of AI, it is equally crucial to dismantle organisational barriers hindering the implementation of AI in the workplace. It's not going to cut the mustard for someone to say “oh, sorry, it was outside my jurisdiction, or I didn't think of that because it was in another region or another country”.

AI is not the first nor the last technology to revolutionise the workplace. It’s therefore imperative for leaders to cultivate an agile digital muscle, enabling them to leverage emerging technologies effectively and maintain a competitive edge.

Let's navigate AI challenges with a commitment to fairness, compliance, and individual well-being. The future is digital, and our leadership must be equally dynamic.
