Written by Jarrod McGrath | February 03, 2024

The Client

As Australia's largest cooperative in the grain industry. The organisation is intricately woven into the entire grain value chain, encompassing farming, storage, transportation, marketing, and processing. The client's storage and handling system efficiently manages approximately 90% of the states grain harvest, recognized globally for its excellence. With a workforce of around 3,500 employees, including approximately 2,000 casual staff during the harvest season, the client's dynamic operations make it an apt reference for the complexities of workforce management, including roles such as Grain Handlers, Plant Operators, Maintenance Technicians, and Stevedores.

The Business Problem and Outcomes

To achieve better visibility of the team, this client implemented innovative tools and technologies that allowed managers to have real-time insights into their employees' activities and progress. Through the use of intuitive dashboards and analytics, managers were able to track individual and team performance, identify areas for improvement, and make informed decisions to optimize productivity.

To modernize time collection, the client introduced the use of mobile devices for employees to record their working hours and tasks. This transition from traditional timekeeping methods to mobile-based solutions streamlined the process, eliminating the need for manual data entry and reducing the risk of errors. Employees could easily clock in and out, report their tasks, and access relevant information on their mobile devices, making the time collection process more efficient and convenient.

Furthermore, the client focused on optimizing the cost of labor by implementing cost management strategies and tools. By analyzing labor data and identifying patterns and trends, CBH was able to make data-driven decisions to allocate resources effectively, minimize unnecessary expenses, and maximize productivity. This proactive approach to labor cost management not only improved operational efficiency but also contributed to the overall profitability of the organization.

These improvements further solidified the client's position as a leader in the grain industry, demonstrating their commitment to innovation and excellence in all aspects of their operations.
